IRIS
Introduction
Iris is a university project where we learned about form-finding and Design styles. We had to choose a brand and a designer. We analysed their design style and translated this into our own product. For this project, I decided on Bang & Olufsen and Zaha Hadid to "cooperate" with. I chose them because they have many of the same values as me.
What is Iris?
Iris is a photography location-scouting lens. This new tool allows you to scout out a remote location before you bring your heavy and expensive gear. Find new locations and determine exactly which equipment you need to bring the next time you return. The image processing is done completely digitally. There are no optical elements present. This keeps the cost and weight low while still being able to dial in all the settings yourself.
Because it's all done digitally you are also able to quickly test different filters and lightroom editing presets.
Zoom ring
Custom ring
The zoom ring lets you zoom in and out of your desired frame. Find out which lenses and focal lengths you will need to bring next time.
The custom ring lets you customize the controls to your own liking. control Aperture, shutter speed or ISO.
Lightroom presets
Filter emulation
Selector dials
With filter emulation, you can try out different kinds of filters and see what works best. This way you know exactly what to bring.
You can preload Lightroom preset to figure out how the scene will look in different editing styles. This can give you a clearer view of the final image.
The custom dial lets you customize the controls to your own liking. control Aperture, shutter speed or ISO. The mode dial lets you scout in different modes. this way you can simulate real shooting conditions.
Design process
The design process started by composing 2 mood boards. One of B&O and one of Zaha Hadid. Afterwards, I Analysed these mood boards and wrote down the most defining characteristics. These were used as inspiration for the sketches. Once I understood their design style well enough I transitioned to Blender for some more defined concepts.

IRIS
I have chosen to name this project after the flower "Iris" because it stands for faith, wisdom and hope, on the other hand, you can also think of it as the part of your eye. In photography, the aperture blades are often associated with the pupil. Iris is the perfect link between my design style and photography.
